The Safe House – great movie trailer with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds

I enjoy not only reading thrillers, but also watching them :). That's why I often watch trailers to know what new film will appear in cinemas soon. One of the most interesting trailer I have seen lately is about thriller called The Safe House.

Trailer begins intriguing. In the first sentence a woman's voice says - "He was one of the most brilliant CIA operatives we ever had – until he went rogue".

After that it's just gets better and better. It turns out that Denzel Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA - his name is Tobin Frost.

On the other side we have Matt Weston played by Ryan Reynolds. He is a young and inexperienced CIA agent, who wind up with Frost when a group of soldiers destroy the CIA-operated safe house where he is kept captive. Only Weston and Frost survive the attack. But what next? Whom to trust?

Although I like movies about Jason Bourne, I hope that The Safe House will be made with more respect for the laws of probability ;-). That  it won't turn up to be only entertaining, but also with intricately and logical constructed plot.

Interestingly, Reynolds got a major role. Recently we could see him as a funny guy in The Change-Up, as well as a superhero in Green Lantern. How will he deal with this role? I hope that he created a good duet with Denzel.

Filming took place in Cape Town, South Africa. Now film is in post-production.
Release date: February 10, 2012.

Christmas presents ideas: best books for gifts

Christmas is getting closer and closer, that's why friends are asking me about some good new crime book or thriller, which they could buy as a gift for their dad, sister, son, aunt or grandfather :). Since I now have a blog, instead of responding them individually, I can give them a link to this post :).

I know that it's difficult to advise a specific title, not knowing anything about person who will get it. Besides, if the main criteria is the "novelty" of the book, I must base on the author's previous works, because I simply can't read all the latest novels which interest me as quickly as I would like to.

I would rather recommend a great book that was released e.g. a year ago, but then I hear the argument "he/she may already have this title".

So I looked through the list of newly published books and created a list of bestselling authors, whose names should be widely known. There is also no fear that it will be a poor novel, because these authors always guarantee a good reading experience. Even if one of them is in weaker form, he still manages to write in such a sugestive way, that is hard to divert attention from the novel :).

So which is the best book as a present for Christmas? :) Here is my list (in alphabetical order by author):

Why I decided to put the titles in alphabetical order? Because it is difficult to compare these books. Some people like King, so probably will be glad to recieve his latest novel, others prefer legal thrillers, so will be content, when they will see cover of newest Grisham's novel, still others want more action, that's why Jeffery Deaver or Lee Child will be the best choice for them (if you have 100% certainty that person, which you want to buy a gift to, didn't read any of Jeffery Deaver's book, see my selection of his the best top ten novels).

Each of these authors is a solid writer, which guarantees a good, enjoyable time while reading. So I encourage you to see the descriptions of each of these books. This will allow you to choose appropriate titles for your loved ones! :)

Recently bought: 11/22/63 – new novel by Stephen King

One of my favorite authors is Stephen King. I think he's one of the best living writers in the world. So don’t be surprised by the fact, I will be writing about him quite often.  But now I'd like to just share the news that I bought his latest book :).

Stephen King is the author of more than fifty books. I have read most of them and I think that almost all of them are great. Of course, few of them are not so good as e.g. Misery, The Stand, It, The Shining or The Green Mile (just to mention a few :)), but still enjoyable to read.

What’s the plot of 11/22/63 about? "On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? Stephen King's heart-stoppingly dramatic new novel is about a man who travels back in time to prevent the JFK assassination" (description from Amazon).

Like you can see, one question has become the starting point for King to write almost 900 page novel. This is another example that "What if", as I have read in many books about writing, is a great method for writers to get an idea for a book or simply start to write one. 

But back to King :). Most of his novels and collections of short stories are a masterpiece. I like to go back to them from time to time. Now, for example, I re-read The Stand - suggestively written vision of the end of civilization because of biological weapon. If someone did not read this book - I encourage to do so!

As soon as I finish The Stand, I’ll start to read his latest novel :). I hope it will be as good as his recent books like Under the Dome and Duma Key. Both are long (I like this very much :)), interesting, have credible characters and a story that you will remembered for a long time.

Shortly speaking - Stephen King is in sensational form. And I don't mean only his novels, but also short stories. His Full Dark, No Stars (a collection of four novellas) can authentically terrify you  (I especially like the first two stories - 1922 and Big Driver).

If any of you have already read 11/22/63 – leave comments about it, please. From what I see on Amazon - with over 260 reviews, the vast majority of users (over 180) gave the book five stars. Nice:).

Jeffery Deaver – top 10 best books

I like Jeffery Deaver's novels for several reasons. The most important is: subject matter of each of his book is different, that's why I learn a lot on different fields of interest (e.g., how voltage works in "The burning wire" or details about the art of magic in "The Vanished Man"). 

The author firmly prepares to write each and every novel (I've read that Deaver spends about eight months on research before he starts to write!), so the background is always very detailed, and the plot – interesting and logical. I should also mention that he is a very good writer :). Dialogues in Jeffery Deaver's books are simply great and a pleasure to read!

I like the sudden action twists, used by Deaver all the time. Guessing who ultimately turns up to be the bad guy is fun for me. Therefore, friends who ask me what to take for a long plane flight or a train ride – I tell them: take Deaver!  

Why? Since the action is dynamic, with believable heroes, you still want to read further and further. Chapter after chapter, till you reach the end. What's why your travel will pass very fast :).

my name is Paul. I love detective stories, thrillers, horror books and movies. What's why every now and then friends and family members ask me about something interesting to read or watch, as well as for a hint, what they should choose for a gift, take on vacation or for a long journey :).

I decided to share my knowledge not only with my close ones, but also on my blog. This is a combination of work and pleasure, because on the one hand I write about something what I love, on the other – I practise my English, because it is not my first language. Correct me when I make a mistake.
